Functional safety features form an integral part of each automotive product development phase, ranging from the specification, to design, implementation, integration, verification, validation, and production release. The standard ISO 26262 is an adaptation of the Functional Safety standard IEC 61508 for Automotive Electric/Electronic Systems. ISO 26262 is a multipart standard defining requirements and providing guidelines for achieving functional safety in E/E systems installed in road vehicles. The standard ISO 26262 is considered a best practice framework for achieving functional safety in road vehicles.
The ISO 26262 Functional Safety Standard is an international safety standard of electric and/or electronic systems in production automobiles defined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
As defined by TÜV-NORD, Producers of safety-relevant technical systems in the automotive industry are obliged to develop their systems according to all technical and scientific aspects of functional safety.
ISO 26262 defines the requirements of functional safety for electrical and electronic systems. Application of the mentioned standard lead to a correlating documented safety evidence of conformity.
